The primary purpose of the H.B. McDANIEL FOUNDATION is to honor and foster the work of Professor H.B. McDaniel, the first Director of Guidance for the California State Department of Education and Professor of Psychology and Education at Stanford University,  by improving the field of guidance and counseling and thereby assisting in the optimal growth and development of youth and adults of our present and future times.

The H.B. McDANIEL FOUNDATION aims to:

 

  • Provide an open forum for the exchange of research and of new ideas and practices relating to guidance and counseling programs/services.

  • Hold annual H.B. McDaniel Foundation/CASC Northern California Workshops on the Stanford Campus providing cutting edge professional development to Northern California School Counselors.

 

  • Recognize those individuals and professional groups who are developing new, improved or exemplary counseling and guidance programs/services for all ages and settings. Over the years 49 Individual Award Winners, 35 Professional Groups and over 100 Hall of Fame Inductees have been recognized for their contributions to the field of School Counseling.

 

  • Assist and encourage graduate students to engage in the study of counseling and guidance. Over the past 15 years, $22,700 has been awarded to graduate students demonstrating outstanding achievement in Research and Service to the School Counseling profession.

The H.B. McDaniel Foundation celebrates the life of esteemed Stanford Professor and honored Foundation Board Member, John D. Krumboltz, PhD. 

 

John's spirit and involvement will be missed by the H.B. McDaniel Foundation Board. In addition to his service to Stanford students, John served as a long time member of the H.B. McDaniel Foundation established to honor the legacy of Stanford Professor, and John's former colleague, H.B. McDaniel. John, along with is wife Betty, have been active and integral participants on the Foundation Board from the Board’s establishment in 1974 to the current day. He will be greatly missed for his willingness to speak his mind,  fantastic sense of humor, down-to-earth attitude and approachable demeanor.

 

This past year the Board was thrilled to award the initial John D. Krumboltz Career Development Scholarship in honor of John and will continue to offer the scholarship in memory of John's enormous contributions to the field of career counseling.

The H.B. McDaniel Foundation celebrated our 45th annual conference and banquet. The conference included a full day of professional development breakout sessions for professionals in the field. The previous evening, the Foundation held our annual Banquet to acknowledge individuals and groups in the field of school counseling.
 
The Foundation also awarded four students with distinctive scholarships during the banquet. The scholarships acknowledge the research and service of counselors in training while honoring former Stanford University Professor and eminent state counseling leader, Dr. H.B.
